SUN AND MOON: A RIVALRY

By: Abigail Mae D. Mayate

My life was a storm when I met the sun
He showed me the light, but I just ran
I kept running—afraid of his warmth
Yet, I found myself lying beneath his arm

I seek for his presence every morning
He wakes me up with a smile—it’s shining
But our love story ends during the dawn
For he wants to go yet I kept holding on

He left me with sadness—it was dark
But beyond that darkness, I saw a spark
I found the moon who shines from within
I loved his stars and everything in between

He made me believe that there’s magic
—that darkness is not always tragic
He could’ve been my greatest fascination
He’s the dream I wished from constellation

I was already happy with my moon
But he said that my sun will come back soon
There, I started thinking for a minute or two
I was confused, didn’t know what to do

But my moon selflessly waited for the sun
He hugged me tight, thinking I’ll be gone
As the sun tried to wake me up,
I chose to take a nap.
