Making a choice

Another business trip was on going. It’s again the longest distance across Taiwan, from north to south, from west to east, from the Taiwan straits to the Pacific Ocean. Except for the measuring devices and personal belongings, I also brought an undecided decision along with me.

I had had a decision in my mind already. I was just lacking of courage to make a decision right away. I’m always trapped in this scenario. The other day, one of my colleagues uploaded a video on the Line group chatting room. It somehow reminded me the reason at the first place I decide to take and apply for this position in my recent company… It’s a sunny day in my third day of the business trip. Since we have finished the test, we had a leisurely afternoon for ourselves. What a wonderful moment it is to take four members of our team who went to this test site for the first time to a beautiful coast that I frequently want to visit again!

We drove our company provided van, passing through the curly mountain roads. 10 mins later, arrived the No.2 gate of our test site. “ Where are you come from” “what do you want to do outside” asked security guard. “ We just want to roam around” I replied. it’s a narrow country road with only two lanes after we got out from the gate. The view got broad after 2 kilometers driving, now we can see the Pacific Ocean just at the right side of the road. We parked our car at one of the entry of the coast. My current company indeed has some drawbacks and bureaucratic rules that I can’t easily adapt to. Its almost destroyed the beautiful imaginations of this job I have before me entering. To me, it’s a good question will you choose a job doing things what you love but you will always need some efforts to get used to the unwanted bureaucracy and somewhat unfair raising pay system and working load, or a job doing things what you don’t like that much but will have a higher salary (bright future ?) as well as a better working environment.

We went forward to the coast until my foot can almost be touched by waves. We checked our phone to see if we can turnoff the app banning the camera in smartphones once you are adjacent to the test site. “It’s still work, not far enough” I said. One of the most regretful things happened constantly in my trip is despite of the spectacular sceneries around us , we can’t take any photo to share with our family and friends. We went along the coast getting farther and farther from the entry, trying to turn off the app. Finally we did!… There are a lot of my best colleagues have left me, went to other companies one after another. I could hardly find a reason insisting on staying at here. A gloomy future with narrowly compatible knowledge as well as know-hows learned from here against the currently famous industries in Taiwan.

With extreme excitement, I took a photo of the sea at once, just directed my phone camera randomly towards the sea. It was so good to has this opportunity during times in business trip. Stood beside the waves, watching it surged forward and retreated backwards again and again, every wave is different from the last one. We went farther to have another wide flat beach. Two of my colleagues changed their shoes to the slippers they brought from the dormitory and sat on the beach directly. I was amazed that they were so brilliant to do so. Sands here are not enjoyably fine, you still could feel the rough sensation beneath your foot; nevertheless, I still love this beach for there are a lot of pebbles with a variety of different sizes and shapes…. Should I change for the sake of change? Would, for this time, staying and not being influenced by obstacles in order to keep the right direction of career be an another choice? When It wound back the time I was writing my resume for entering current company. What a most inspiring and heart touching article it is, I put all my greatest ambitions and sentences to express my passions at this job and career in that resume. But now, it’s completely ironic for I have to use the same words, in contrast, in a different job interview in different career.

I threw pebbles into the sea for fun in different ways. One way is to throw pebbles as far as possible. Another way is to throw pebbles nearly horizontally making it revolves at the same time, and when the pebbles hit on the surface of sea, chances are the pebbles will deflect off the surface of the sea, made one another hit when it starts to fall down. In this way, you may have several hits on the sea if you throw pebbles in a perfect angle and with high speed. One of my colleagues went forward and soaked her foot in waves and then I, reluctantly and unfortunately, soaked my foot in shoes when a strong wave surged through the beach. I turned my head towards the side view of this terrific beach, took a photo composed of waves and gravel on the beach half-and-half.

I realized this gorgeous beach will exist here for long, no matter what decision I made in the end. The waves move forward and backward everyday, the pebbles and gravel abrade each other when it surged back and forth regularly and endlessly. The sun rises and clouds gather every single day. This worry is just a small flutter during my life and I would always have an opportunity to appreciate those natural miracles once again If I want. Don’t be afraid of making a choice, All things you have to do is just to give yourself enough time to reflect, to follow the voice from your deepest mind. Once you had got a final decision, put all your heart and mind in. I believe being absorbed in what you are doing every moment will have nothing vain in your life.
