A Remarkable Journey

It was one rainy afternoon. I was all alone with an umbrella in hand and my rain jacket to shelter me from the rainfall and the chilly breeze that would definitely bite through my skin. The streets were quite empty, no signs for a ride to come by any sooner.

I started heading back but as I pass by, people began looking at me strangely. I wonder why. Was it because of my jacket that seems out of place? It doesn’t seem so, though. It is just appropriate for the weather. Could it be the rubber footwear that I chose to wear for today?

With that I continued to walk slowly, appreciating the view around me- the gentle swaying of trees as they glimmer, wet from the rain. I saw the sky starting to clear and the warm sunlight was leisurely shining again.

All of a sudden, I heard nearby gushes of water. I looked down to see small ripples of water mimicking ocean waves kissing the shore, rushing and eager to soak me. I was taken aback, but the body of water before me seemed inviting. I stepped into the water and went on my way. It seemed to get deeper as I get closer to my destination but I can’t seem to mind, as I was taking my time.

Later on, I saw children on the other side, playing and enjoying the water just like me. For a moment, I felt like a kid again and it warmed my heart. In a short while I was to arrive at my stop when a large vehicle suddenly passed by, creating consecutive huge waves. It reached my rubber boots causing water to go in it. In a distance, I heard my Lola shouting, “Naku’ng bata ka, naglalakad ka nanaman sa baha!”
