Let’s Not Grow Old Together (January 20, 2020)

The older I grow with you

The more I fear this feeling

Regret is gnawing my soul

No one can hear me breathing

__________________________

To show a halo that lasts

We played, not with each other

It was our self-importance

Growing thorns as we latched hands

___________________________

We were ever so eager

With hands entwined together

Better was the game changer

Then, resolved to grow bitter

___________________________

Maturity we called this,

Playing music aimed for show –

To act when taking pictures

Those boring empty letters

___________________________

Our wrists twisted like razor

Cutting flesh we want preserved

We didn’t play anymore

Older was our forever

___________________________

My river dried its waters

Yours tasted every poison

If I just chose the other

Youth would still be my lover
